SYMPTOMS

When you shut down your computer, you may receive the following error message:
RTFIXMON: This program is not responding, or is waiting for a response from you.
Although you may be prompted to choose Wait, Shutdown or Ignore, you may not be able to select any of these choices, and your computer may stop responding (hang) after it displays the "Windows is shutting down" screen.

CAUSE

This issue can be caused by the Backtrack registry feature that is included with the Cybermedia First Aid 98 program. The Backtrack registry feature may be taking a very long time to take its "snapshot" of the registry or system files.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, disable the Backtrack registry feature in Windows Guardian properties. For specific information about how to set the properties in First Aid 98, view the program Help files, or contact Cybermedia.
