SYMPTOMS

When you drag Windows Media Player across a computer that has been enabled for multiple monitors, the streaming video may be interrupted. Windows Media Player may need to rebuffer or it may need to be restarted after it has been moved to another monitor.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if a computer has been enabled for multiple monitors, and the Microsoft DirectDraw component of Microsoft DirectX detects each monitor as a separate video source. When the video source is moved, Microsoft DirectDraw has to process the information again as though it is new information, which can cause the streaming video to rebuffer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 8.01
