SYMPTOMS

Services for Unix (SFU) 2.0 includes a Telnet server. The SFU 2.0 Telnet server has a memory leak that can be triggered by a malformed user request.

If a user repeatedly sends a malformed request to the Telnet server kernel memory may be depleated so that performance is slowed and the computer may stop responding (hang).

NOTE: Both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 include a Telnet server that does not have this problem.
