SYMPTOMS

After you clear the Allow this program to run in the background check box and then try to send mail to an offline buddy, Windows Messenger does not quit completely when you click Close in the upper right corner of the Windows Messenger window.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because you cannot quit Windows Messenger while another mail program is using the Windows Messenger Application Programming Interface (API).

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, quit the mail program that is using the API (Hotmail, Outlook, or Outlook Express, for example) to allow Windows Messenger to close completely.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
