If you are running Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft recommends that you install the Outlook E-mail Security Update. For more information about the Outlook E-mail Security Update, see one of the following Knowledge Base articles:

If you cannot use the Outlook E-mail Security Update or you are running an e-mail program other than Outlook, Microsoft recommends that you take the following precautions:

  • Ensure that you are running anti-virus software with the latest signature update
  • Use caution when you open all attachments, even if they are from someone that you know
  • Never "share" an entire drive; share only specific directories to specific users as required
  • When sharing a directory, never allow unrestricted access; always use a strong password to protect the share or limit access to the share to specific users
  • Where possible, do not use persistent mapped network drives (mapped drives that are reconnected each time you log on)
