SYMPTOMS

When you play an Audio-Video Interleaved (.avi) file, a portion of the movie may be clipped or truncated.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you record the .avi file with Microsoft Camcorder, and then play the movie on a computer that uses a lower video resolution compared to the resolution on the computer on which you recorded the file.

Microsoft Camcorder plays an .avi file using the same screen resolution with which you record it. For example, if you record the .avi file on a computer that uses a video resolution of 1,024x768 pixels, and then play the .avi file on a computer that uses a (lower) video resolution of 640x480 pixels, only the upper-left 640x480 pixels appear.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, either play the movie with the same video resolution with which you record it, or record the movie with the lowest video resolution.
