SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you change the chart type for a group, the scale of the x axis may change as well.

CAUSE

Choosing a group and changing the Chart Type is different from selecting a single series and then changing the chart type. When you change the chart type for a group, you may change some of the x axis settings for the chart.

This behavior is by design in Microsoft Excel version.

RESOLUTION

Select the series on chart first, then change the Chart Type using the Chart Type command on the Format menu.
