SUMMARY

Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS), and clients that connect to it, require the TCP/IP network protocol for all components to function correctly. The TCP/IP protocol is installed and configured automatically during Small Business Server setup. If this protocol is removed, the Console, Modem Sharing, and Fax Server may not function properly.

MORE INFORMATION

Indications that TCP/IP is not installed include:

A blank screen when you try to run the Administrative Console by selecting Manage Server from the Start button.
Errors on the client computers when you try to use Modem Sharing and Fax Server to connect to bulletin boards or send faxes.
Additional protocols can be added to the Small Business Server, such as NetBEUI or IPX, but the TCP/IP protocol cannot be removed without jeopardizing the functionality of the previously mentioned components.

APPLIES TO
Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0
Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0a
Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
