Kernel32.dll and other error messages when you install Office 2000 products with Direct Memory Access (DMA) enabled on Windows 95 or Windows 98

of this article on Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, you may
receive the following error message: This program has
performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists,
contact the program vendor. If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the following:
ACMSETUP caused an invalid page fault in module
KERNEL32.DLL at 0177:bff7be97. When installing Office 2000, you may
experience the following symptoms:
CAUSE This problem may occur when the following conditions are
true:
WORKAROUND To work around this problem, follow these steps. Disable DMA for the CD-ROM
Disable DMA for the Disk drive(s)
Delete Product Folder and Reinstall

shipping a replacement part for laptop-based Toshiba 24x CD-ROM drives in the
Dell Inspiron 3200 to fix a problem that can cause the "Kernel32" symptoms
