SYMPTOMS

You may receive any of the following error messages when you play audio- video interleave (.avi) files:
A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:<XXXXXXXX> in Vxd Vmwaudio (01)
-or-
MMSYSTEM257 Invalid MCI device ID. Use the ID returned when opening the MCI device.
-or-
MMSYSTEM296 The file cannot be played on the specified MCI device. The file may be corrupt, or not in the correct format.

CAUSE

These error messages can occur on an IBM Aptiva 2168-A92 or Acer computer with earlier versions of IBM Mwave sound card drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact IBM or Acer to inquire if an Mwave sound card driver update is available for your IBM Aptiva computer.
