Cannot Open Network Tool in Control Panel

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open the Network tool in Control Panel, nothing may happen, or you may receive any of the following error messages:
Rundll caused an invalid page fault in netdi.dll
-or-
Rundll32 caused a general protection fault in krnl386.exe
This behavior may also occur when you right-click Network Neighborhood and then click Properties.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Netdi.dll file or the Netos.dll file is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, extract a new copy of the Netdi.dll file and the Netos.dll file from your original Windows disks or CD-ROM. For information about how to extract a file, see the follow article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
