SYMPTOMS

When you clear the "Add slide navigation controls" check box, you cannot go from slide page to slide page on the web site that you created from your presentation.

CAUSE

When you save your presentation as web pages, each slide is converted into individual HTML pages. Unless there is a link on the page to the next slide page or another slide page, you will not be able to navigate to those pages.

If you do not select "Add slide navigation controls", you are disabling the notes page preview (the outline frame that lists all the frames in the presentation), and you are removing the navigation controls from the web page frame that is created.

RESOLUTION

There three methods to allow navigation to other slides pages in your web site.

Method 1: Add Navigation Buttons to Slide

1.From the Autoshapes menu, point to Action Buttons, and click Previous Slide. The Previous Slide button is the action button with the arrow head pointing to the left
2.Draw the button on your slide at the location you want to have the button located.
3.When you finish drawing the button, the Action Settings dialog will be displayed. The default value for this action button will be the previous slide.
4.Repeat steps 1-4. In step 2, click to select the action button with the arrow head pointing to the right.
5.Repeat steps 1-5 for the next slide.
The advantage of this method is that you can add action buttons that go to slides other than the next or previous slide. The Hyperlink Action setting allows you to link to specific slides. You cannot use the Hyperlink to Custom Show feature of the Action settings, as this is a PowerPoint only feature.

Method 2: Add Navigation Button to Slide Masters

The steps for this are identical to the Method 1 steps, except that you perform them on each of the slide masters (both the Slide Master and the Title Master) of your presentation.

The main advantage to this method is that you only need to do this twice:
1.Perform the steps once for the slide master.
2.Perform the steps once for the title master.
These action buttons will be visible on every slide automatically, unless you omit the master slide objects with the format background dialog.

Method 3: Assign Action Setting to Slide Objects

1.Either highlight some text or click to select an object on the slide.
2.On the Slide Show menu, click Action Settings.
3.From the Hyperlinks list, select the type of hyperlink behavior that you want to assign to your selected object.
4.Click OK.
This is the most versatile method of all. This allows you to treat your entire presentation as a hyper document, with links to several other documents of your choice, as well as to the Next and Previous slides of your presentation.
