FP2000: Prompted to Overwrite the Wrong File When Using Save As Command

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Save As command to change an ASP file to an HTML file, you receive the following message:
The file new_page_1.asp already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

You enable the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option in Windows Explorer. -and-

You use the Save As command to save an ASP file as an HTML file in Microsoft FrontPage.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
1.On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and click Windows Explorer.
2.On the View menu, click Options.
3.Click to clear the "Hide file extensions for known file types" check box.
4.Click Apply, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
