RFC 1323 Options Can Not Be Enabled in Windows 95 and Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

When you edit the Tcp1323Opts registry value for the TCP/IP protocol in your Windows 98/95-based computer, it does not enable RFC 1323 options as documented in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
158474 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158474/EN-US/) Windows TCP/IP Registry Entries
Also, changing the Tcp1323Opts registry value has no effect on the behavior of the TCP/IP protocol on Windows 95 and Windows 98.

CAUSE

There is a problem in the TCP protocol driver (Vtcp.386) when reading and implementing this registry value.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 95 and Windows 98.

This issue is resolved in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.
