FP2000: Can't Open or Save Files in Hidden Folders

SYMPTOMS

In FrontPage 2000, in a server-based web, you cannot open or save a file to a hidden folder, even when the Show documents in hidden folders option is selected, under Web Settings.

CAUSE

The Open and Save dialog boxes do not show hidden folders or folders that start with an underscore (_folder).

RESOLUTION

To open a file in a hidden folder, do the following:
1.Double-click the hidden folder in the Folder List.
2.Double-click the file you want to open.


To save a file in a hidden folder, do the following:

1.In the Folder List in Page view, right-click the root of the web.

For example: http://servername/webname
2.On the shortcut menu that appears, click New Page.
3.On the File menu, click Save.
4.Drag the new file into the hidden folder.


NOTE: To be able to see hidden folders other than the _private directory, you must select the Show documents in hidden folders option in the Advanced tab of the Web Settings dialog box. The Web Settings dialog box can be accessed by clicking the Tools menu.

MORE INFORMATION

The _private folder is the only folder visible through the Open and Save As dialog boxes.
