No Notification When Recalling Files from Remote Storage Server

SYMPTOMS

When you recall a file from a Remote Storage Server the Recall in Progress notification box may not be displayed on the client monitor even though the file is eventually recalled.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if there are a large number of clients that have open sessions with the Remote Storage Server. This issue has been reproduced with 42 or more active client sessions.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Note: For Datacenter Server, you need to obtain any service packs or hotfixes from the OEM vendor from which you purchased Datacenter.

Currently, there is no workaround or resolution to this issue. The server's performance is not affected. Files and data continue to be recalled, but the client does not receive notification.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
