USB CD-ROM Does Not Work After You Update the Driver

SYMPTOMS

After you use the Update Device Driver Wizard to update the driver for your Hewlett Packard (HP) 8200 Universal Serial Bus (USB) CD-ROM drive to the latest HP driver, the CD-ROM drive does not appear, and it is not listed in My Computer or Windows Explorer as an available CD-ROM drive. You may also experience this behavior after you connect the HP 8200 USB CD-ROM drive to your computer and install the HP driver that is included with the CD-ROM drive.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if entries that refer to the previous driver file (Usbstor.sys) are still present in the registry.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
1.Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
2.Click the Device Manager tab, and then double-click the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch to expand it.
3.Click the listing for the HP 8200 USB CD-ROM (HP USB CD-Writer Plus), and then click Remove.
4.Click Refresh.
