Cannot Format Sony HiFD USB 200 MB Media in Windows Millennium Edition

SYMPTOMS

After you format an unformatted disk in a Sony Universal Serial Bus (USB) HiFD 200 megabyte (MB) disk drive in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the disk appears to be formatted. However, when you try to transfer files to the disk drive, you receive the following error message
Cannot write to drive X:

where X is the drive letter of the Sony USB HiFD drive.

CAUSE

There is no format support in the USB Storage Class Driver (Usbstor.sys) for USB HiFD 200 MB storage devices.

MORE INFORMATION

Parallel port versions of the Sony HiFD 200 MB drive are not affected by this problem.
