When you start Windows Media Player 7 and click Media Guide, Radio Tuner, or a link to a streaming media file, you may receive any of the following messages:
Use Media Guide to find entertaining and informative content on the Internet. When you log on to Media Guide, you can access the latest music, movie trailers, and news updates. Get connected to the Internet and experience the Media Guide.
Use Radio Tuner to find radio stations on the Internet. When you open Radio Tuner, you can access radio stations from around the world, but you must be connected to the Internet.
Action Cancelled
Try refreshing the page or connecting to the web site at a later time.
You have encountered WMP error, error= C00D10B5 - no other help is available.
Unable to access this media, you may not be connected to the network...
Windows Media Player is not configured for the Internet.
Note that these are not messages that suggest running the Internet Connection Wizard to get connected.

CAUSE
Windows Media Player checks for an echo from the default gateway. If there is no IP gateway, Windows Media Player may try to ping the HTTP proxy instead. If the HTTP proxy is outside your firewall and the firewall filters ICMP packets, Windows Media Player may determine that there is no connection.

Try these steps:
| 1. | Verify that you can connect by using Microsoft Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player 6.4 (Mplayer2.exe). Windows Media Player 6.4 is installed along with Windows Media Player 7. To Set Windows Media Player 6.4 as the default player for streaming media as a test:| a. | Click Start, click Run, type mplayer2, and then click OK. This starts Windows Media Player 6.4. | | b. | On the View menu, click Options. | | c. | On the Formats tab, click Select All, and then click OK. |
| | 2. | Use Internet Explorer to visit http://www.windowsmedia.com (http://www.windowsmedia.com). Attempt to play a streaming media file. This should start Windows Media Player 6.4. | | 3. | Set Windows Media Player 7 as the default player again:| a. | Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Media Player to start Windows Media Player 7. | | b. | On the Tools menu, click Options. | | c. | On the Formats tab, click Select All, and then click OK. |
| | 4. | In Internet Explorer, disable the Automatically detect settings option:| a. | Start Internet Explorer. | | b. | On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. | | c. | On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings. | | d. | Click to clear the Automatically detect settings check box, click OK, and then click OK. |
| | 5. | Enable the Use the same proxy server for all protocols option in Internet Explorer:| a. | Start Internet Explorer. | | b. | On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. | | c. | On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings. | | d. | Under Proxy server click Advanced. | | e. | Click to select the Use the same proxy server for all protocols check box, click OK, and then click OK. |
| | 6. | Make Internet Explorer the default browser:| a. | Start Internet Explorer. | | b. | On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. | | c. | On the Programs tab, click to select the Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser check box, and then click OK. |
| | 7. | Add the default gateway to the network adapter's properties:| a. | Click Start, click Run, type cmd, click OK, type ipconfig, and then press Enter. | | b. | Click your network adapter, and then note the default gateway address. | | c. | Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network. | | d. | Click TCP/IP -> your network adapter, and then click Properties. | | e. | On the Gateway tab, add the default gateway that you noted, click OK, and then click OK. |
