SYMPTOMS

When you install SharePoint Portal Server 2001 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 1 (SP1), Setup may fail, and you may receive the following error message:
Setup failed while installing sub-component OLEDB protocol with error code 0xc103798A.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you upgraded the computer from Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 to Windows 2000 Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, manually register the Oledb32.dll file before you install SharePoint Portal Server on a computer that is running Windows 2000 Server that has been upgraded from Windows NT 4.0. To register the file, open a command prompt, browse to the Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB folder, and then type regsvr32 oledb32.dll.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, install SharePoint Portal Server on a clean Windows 2000 installation.
