SNMP Storage Information Is Not Updated Dynamically

SYMPTOMS

When you use Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to query the free space on a disk, the values are not updated unless you stop and restart the SNMP service.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the cache that the SNMP service uses to obtain this information is updated only when the service is started.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.

Important After you install this hotfix, the SNMP service entry information is not immediately available. The SNMP service will still cache the entries for two minutes before the entries expire. After expiration, the entries are updated.
