SUMMARY

This article describes how to manually remove SharePoint Portal Server from the server.

MORE INFORMATION

If you are unable to successfully remove or repair SharePoint Portal Server, you may need to manually remove SharePoint Portal Server from the server. To manually remove SharePoint Portal Server:
1.Run the server Setup program, and then click Uninstall.
2.Restart the server after the uninstall process is complete (it is recommended that you restart the server even if you are not prompted by Setup).
3.Manually delete the following folders from the appropriate drive if they were not removed by the uninstall program:
%Programfiles%\Microsoft Integration\SharePoint Portal Server
%Programfiles%\SharePoint Portal Server
%Programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Storage System
4.Manually delete the following registry keys if they were not removed by the uninstall program:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Integration\840DF115-893E-49d5-A386-654BF4081ED9
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SharePoint Portal Server
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msdmserv
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EmbeddedExchange\Setup
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msExchangeIS
Warning If you have Microsoft Exchange Server installed, do not remove the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msExchangeIS key. If you remove this key, it will remove your Exchange Information Store service and users will no longer be able to connect to the Exchange computer.
5.If Microsoft Exchange Server was ever installed and removed, or if you have had a failed SharePoint Portal Server installation attempt, remove the following if it is present:
%programfiles%\Exchsrvr folder

Note This folder is the same as the %Programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Storage System folder listed in step two in the preceding section; however, if you attempt to reinstall SharePoint Portal Server after an installation failure without restarting the server, the %ProgramFiles%\Exchsrvr folder is placed in this location. If you do not remove this folder, the program may not operate correctly.
