FP97: Incorrect URL Configuring IIS w/Multiple Default Pages This article was written about products for which Microsoft no longer offers support. Therefore, this article is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
This article was previously published under Q164274 SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), version 3.0, allows you to
specify multiple file names for the default home page. For example,
you can configure your server to send these files to the Web browser
when it accesses your site but does not request a specific page:
Index.htm
This feature of IIS causes FrontPage to incorrectly name the default
page when you create a new web using a template or if you use the
Publish FrontPage Web command on the File menu in FrontPage Explorer.
For example, when FrontPage creates the page on an IIS server
configured to recognize the file names listed above, it names the home
page as:
Index.html Default.htm
index.htm,index.html,default.htm
CAUSE
FrontPage does not support this feature of IIS, which was added to IIS version
3.0. IIS was released after FrontPage was released.
RESOLUTION
Open the Web that contains the incorrectly named default page and
rename the page.
