You may receive unexpected results if you select more than one style when you are formatting a message. For example, if you apply more than one style (such as Emphasis and Strong Emphasis) from the Content menu, the Normal style may be shown as the selected style. Neither the Emphasis nor the Strong Emphasis style is bulleted to show that it is selected.

If you click Strong Emphasis again, the bold formatting is removed, but the Normal style is still shown as the selected style. Clicking Strong Emphasis seems to toggle the style.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Internet Mail and News version 3.0a for Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

When you apply more than one style, the Content menu does not display the correct style as being applied. Also, clicking a style again seems to toggle the style (for example, a style that normally applies bold formatting may remove the formatting in some circumstances). The second style that you apply may not produce predictable results.
