FP98: Can't Use .wav, .ra, .mid Sounds with Hover Buttons This article was written about products for which Microsoft no longer offers support. Therefore, this article is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
This article was previously published under Q175175 SYMPTOMS When you attach a sound file to a hover button, the sound
does not play. CAUSE A sound file attached to a hover button will not play if it
is in stored in a format, such as .wav, Musical Instrument Digital Interface
(.mid), or Real Audio (.ram). In FrontPage 98, a hover button is a Java-based applet that can use 8-bit, 8000 Hz, mono, u-law audio (.au) files only. The .au file format is an audio digital file format supported by the Java programming language, developed by Sun Microsystems. This file format is commonly used on UNIX and NeXT computers. RESOLUTION To use a sound file as an effect on a hover button, convert
the sound file to the .au format by using a sound conversion utility, which is
available from a third-party software vendor. Microsoft has two sample audio files (Train.au and Click.au) in a self-extracting archive called Ausample.exe. To use these files, download the following file from the Microsoft Download Center. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
Ausample.exe (http://download.microsoft.com/download
/fp98/Utility/1/WIN98/EN-US/Ausample.exe) For
