Changes in Internet Explorer 4.01

Internet Explorer 4.01 (version 4.72.2106.8) includes the following changes to Internet Explorer 4.0 (version 4.71.1712.6):
The version number that is displayed when you click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu in Internet Explorer, or right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop and then click Properties, is 4.72.2106.8.
Cipher Strength (40-bit or 128-bit Enhanced Cryptographic Service Provider) is displayed when you click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu in Internet Explorer.
The Internet Explorer user agent strings are updated from "MSIE 4.0" to "MSIE 4.01."

NOTE: The user agent string is used by Web sites to determine the capabilities of your browser.
Internet Explorer 4.01 Setup does not upgrade Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview (Beta) releases. If you are currently running Platform Preview 1.0 (version 4.71.544) or Platform Preview 2.0 (version 4.71.1008.3), you must uninstall the Platform Preview release before you install Internet Explorer 4.01. For information about how to do so, please see the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
170757 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/170757/EN-US/) Uninstalling Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 2.0

If you are running Internet Explorer 4.01 in Browser Only mode, you are unable to install an earlier version of Internet Explorer. If you are running Internet Explorer 4.01 with the Windows Desktop Update component, you are unable to install an earlier version of Internet Explorer, and you receive a warning that states that an earlier version of Internet Explorer cannot be installed (Apps.hlp warning).

The channel bar (or channel band in Browser Only mode) is disabled by default in Windows NT 4.0. A "Show cahnnel bar at startup (if Active Desktop is off" check box appears under Browsing when you click Internet Options on the View menu, and then click the Advanced tab.
The warning you receive (Apps.hlp warning) when you attempt to reapply Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3) after you install Internet Explorer 4.01 is updated with the correct text.

For additional information about this issue, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

If you move the Temporary Internet Files folder in Internet Explorer 4.0, cookies are left in the old folder and you do not receive a warning that your cached subscription content is about to be deleted. Both of these issues have been addressed in Internet Explorer 4.01. For more information about these issues, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
172949 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/172949/EN-US/) How to Change the Location of Temporary Internet Files
For more information about these issues, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: The default amount of disk space used by the Temporary Internet Files folder (cache) is increased to 3percent of your hard disk. Earlier versions of Internet Explorer use 2 percent of your hard disk for the Temporary Internet Files folder.

NOTE: If you upgrade from Internet Explorer 3.x to Internet Explorer 4.01, your custom cache size settings are not retained, and the cache is set to 3 percent of your hard disk. If you specified custom cache size settings in Internet Explorer 4.0, those settings are preserved when you upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.01.
For more information about these issues, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Internet Explorer 4.01 includes support for Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA) version 1.1. In addition, the following new accessibility options are available under Accessibility when you click Internet Options on the View menu in Internet Explorer, and then click the Advanced tab:
"Move system caret with focus/selection changes"

This option specifies whether to move the system caret when the focus or selection changes. Some accessibility aids, such as screen readers or screen magnifiers, use the system caret to determine which area of the screen to read or magnify.
"Always expand alt text for images"

This option specifies whether the image size should expand to fit all of the alternate text when the Show Pictures check box is cleared.
