Cannot Save a Document to a Floppy Disk Using WordPad

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to save a document to a floppy disk using WordPad, one of the following symptoms may occur:
WordPad stops responding (hangs).
The document is not saved to the floppy disk and you do not receive an error message.
You receive the following error message:
An unexpected error occurred while writing a:\<filename.doc>
You receive the following error message:
Unknown error writing to drive a: <filename.doc>

CAUSE

This issue can occur if there is not enough free space on the floppy disk to save the document.

MORE INFORMATION

The size (in bytes) of the document you are attempting to save and the amount of free space on the floppy disk determines the symptom that occurs. For example, the following table lists the symptoms that may occur if you attempt to save a document to a floppy disk that contains 9 kilobytes (KB) of free space:
   Document size              Symptom
   -------------------------------------------------------------
   Greater than 9 and         Document is not saved and no error
   less than 10.5 KB           message occurs

   Between 10.5 and 13.5 KB   WordPad hangs

   Greater than 13.5 KB       Error message occurs
