SUMMARY

This article describes how to set up the CompuServe POP3/SMTP mail server with Microsoft Outlook 98, Internet Mail Only option.

MORE INFORMATION

CompuServe provides POP3/SMTP mail support. To set up the POP3/SMTP mail server for Outlook, follow these steps:
1.Right-click the Microsoft Outlook icon on your desktop, and then click Properties.
2.Click Add. Type your name, and then click Next.
3.Type your Internet E-mail address, and then click Next.
4.In the Incoming Mail (POP3) box, type pop.compuserve.com. If you have received a different POP3 address from CompuServe, use that instead.
5.In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box type smtp.compuserve.com. If you have received a different SMTP address from CompuServe, use that instead. Click Next.
6.Click to select Log on using Secure Password Authentication. This enables you to access your mailbox with the added security provided by CompuServe's Virtual Key - RPA. Otherwise, you can use your mail- only password instead. Click Next.
7.Type a Friendly Name for your mail account. Click Next.
8.Click to select the appropriate connection type:

If you connect using a local area network, click Connect using my local area network (LAN).

If you connect using a modem and the CompuServe connection, click Connect using my phone line, and then click Next. Click to select the CompuServe connection, and then click Next. If you connect using a modem and want to use a different Internet Service Provider (ISP), select it from the list. If an appropriate connection does not exist, you can create one using the Add button. Click OK.
9.On the "Congratulations" page, click Finish and then click Close.
