When you configure Microsoft Backup to back up your registry, the registry
may not be backed up.
This behavior can occur if either or both of the following conditions
exist:
| • | You are not backing up the Windows folder.
|
| • | All the files that you are backing up are on a drive other than the
boot drive.
|
To resolve this behavior, use the appropriate method:
| • | Back up the Windows folder when you back up the registry.
|
| • | Back up at least one file on the boot drive when you back up the
registry.
|

The registry contains several references that are dependent on device
drivers and dynamic-link library (DLL) files located in the Windows
folder. The registry can not be restored properly without the
corresponding Windows folder.
