SYMPTOMS

When you try to copy a folder to a floppy disk, you may receive the following error message:
The file being copied is too large for the destination drive. If possible, insert a higher-capacity disk.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the folder you are copying contains a file that is larger in size than the formatted capacity of the floppy disk. For example, after you format a 1.44 MB 3.5-inch floppy disk, it has 1.38 MB of free disk space. This error message can occur if you attempt to copy a folder that contains a file that is larger than 1.38 MB in size to the floppy disk. When the error message occurs, the file that is larger in size than the floppy disk is displayed on the Copying dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, move the file to another folder and then copy the folder again.

For information about how to move a file, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type moving, and then double- click the "Moving files or folders" topic.

To work around this issue, use Microsoft Backup to back up the folder. To start Microsoft Backup, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup.
