Monitor Type Not Retained When Upgrading or Reinstalling Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade to Windows 98 from an earlier version of Windows, or when you reinstall Windows 98, Setup may not retain your monitor type. The Display Properties dialog box and Device Manager may list the monitor type as "Unknown Monitor."

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, select the correct monitor type:

1.Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2.Double-click Display, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
3.Click the Monitor tab, and then click Change.
4.In the Manufacturers box, click the manufacturer of your monitor.
5.In the Models box, click the model of the monitor you are using.
6.Click OK, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
