Media Player Does Not Play MP3 Files

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Media Player tool included with Windows to play an MP3 file, you may receive the following error message:
MMSYSTEM281 This file could not be played. Check the filename or install a driver that supports this type of file.

CAUSE

The Media Player tool included with Windows does not support playing MP3 files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player. You can obtain Windows Media Player from the following Microsoft Web site:
