This article was previously published under Q239646 SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition, which includes Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 build 5.00.2614.3500, Setup may not update the previous version of Internet Explorer 5 (build 5.00.2014.0216 or 5.00.2314.1003).

CAUSE
This issue can occur if you previously applied an update for Internet Explorer that installed a file with a version later than the version included with Windows 98 Second Edition. For example, the update for the "Malformed Favorites Icon" security issue replaces the Shdocvw.dll file with version 5.00.2717.2000.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, rename the Iemigrat.dll file, reinstall Windows 98 Second Edition, and then reinstall any critical updates that are not included in Windows 98 Second Edition. NOTE: When you reinstall Windows 98 Second Edition, some updated files may be replaced by the original Windows 98 Second Edition files. If you previously applied updates to Windows that are not included with Windows 98 Second Edition, you should reinstall the updates from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
