"Stop" Error Message with Firewall or Similar Software Installed on a Windows 2000-Based Computer

SYMPTOMS

You may receive a "Stop" error message in Tcpip.sys if you have firewall, proxy, or similar software installed on your computer.

NOTE: The "Stop" error code (taken from winse 8765 is:
STOP 0x0000001e (0xc0000005, 0xbfd0a3a3, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

CAUSE

This problem can occur if Windows 2000 frees a bad Raw Internet Protocol (IP) packet and if there is software installed on the computer that uses the firewall hook.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
