When you attempt to open a dialog box in Microsoft Word, the dialog box does not open. Instead, the Word title bar flashes, and the minimized document icon on the taskbar flashes. You cannot type text, select another Word command, or quit Word.

This behavior occurs when you start Word from the Quick Launch portion of the taskbar, and you select a Word menu command that opens a dialog box.

NOTE: This problem occurs regardless of how you start Word from the Quick Launch portion of the taskbar, for example, if you open My Documents from a shortcut on the Quick Launch portion of the taskbar and then double-click to open a Word document.

To work around this issue, click the minimized Word document icon on the taskbar. Word is minimized and the dialog box that you have selected opens. Click the Close button (the X in the upper-right corner of the dialog box) to close the dialog box. Then, click the Word icon on the taskbar to view the Word document.
