Important Before you install the Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP1, install Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1. 1.	Use your Web browser to locate the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/q331923 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/q331923)
2.	Select your language from the list at the top of the page, and then click Go.
3.	Click the link under Download to start the installation.
4.	Click Save to save the q331923.exe file to the selected folder.
5.	In Windows Explorer, double-click q331923.exe.
6.	If you are prompted to install the update, click Yes.
7.	When you receive a message that indicates the installation was successful, click OK.

Note After you install the Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP1, you cannot remove it.

The ability to differentiate between sending a message and posting to a newsgroup

When you post a response to a newsgroup after you install the update, you receive a dialog box that notifies you that you are posting to the newsgroup. The dialog box contains a Yes button, a No button, and a Don't show me this again option.

View Replies toggle

When you view the Newsreader folders after you install the update, you can press CTRL+H on your keyboard to toggle between the Current View and the Show Replies to my Message view.

The Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP1 contains high-level security fixes, which fixed or removed all bounded and unbounded string functions. This update fixes the following issues, not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

You cannot reply with encrypted messages if Lotus Notes has dual certificates

When you receive a digitally signed message from a Lotus Notes R5 client that uses dual certificates in Outlook Express, one for signing only and one for encryption, you cannot encrypt the message back to the sender. Also, you cannot add the sender or the sender's certificate (digital ID), to your contacts.

You cannot delete individual newsgroup messages from the local .dbx (Filestorage)

You cannot delete a Newsgroup message from your local file store on your hard disk.

Note After you install the Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP1, you must select the message, and then click Delete to delete a Newsgroup message from you local file store.

You receive an error message for an invalid digital ID when you send messages that are signed with Esign certificates

When you use Outlook Express 6.0 SP1 to send a message that is signed with a signing only Esign certificate, you may receive an error message for an invalid digital ID. If you ignore this error message and send the message, the message is sent as expected. This issue does not occur if you import the twin Esign encryption only certificate (of the dual certificate pair).

Outlook Express does not save the default attachment path

When you use Outlook Express, the default attachment path is not saved.

Long Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) that wrap in the body of a message may break

When you use long URLs in the body of a message, the URL may break if it wraps. This also occurs when the URL contains two dashes followed by a space ("-- ").

Outlook Express may stop responding when you insert a signature in a message

Outlook Express may stop responding (hang) when you click Signature on the Insert menu to insert a signature in a message.
