PowerPoint 2000
 Movie Troubleshooter

You can play your movie in PowerPoint, but it does not look right when played.

Try turning off hardware acceleration (this step is valid for Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98 only.) Doing this helps prevent your video driver from interfering with the operation of PowerPoint and Windows. This step is especially helpful if your movie looks like a solid pink or gray block when you play it.

  1. Save your work and quit PowerPoint.

  2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Performance tab, and then click Graphics.

  4. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way over to the left, to the None position.

  5. Click OK twice, and then restart your computer when prompted.

  6. Test your movie in PowerPoint.

If the steps above allow you to play your movie in PowerPoint, then repeat the steps above exactly, except in step 4 change the Hardware Acceleration slider to Basic and test again. If the movie works on the Basic setting, follow the steps again, but change the Hardware Acceleration slider to Advanced, and try again.

Find the highest acceleration setting that allows you to play your movie in PowerPoint. For more information about what hardware acceleration does, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
