Use text or visual alternative to sounds

You can get visual cues instead of sound alerts in Windows by changing your settings. Here's how:

Windows 10
  1. Go to Start  > Settings > Ease of Access  > Audio .
  2. Choose an option from the drop-down menu under Show audio alerts visually.
  3. If you want to turn on text captions, enter Replace sounds with visual cues in the search box on your taskbar, and choose it from the search results. Then, check the box next to Turn on text captions for spoken dialog.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
    (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.)
  2. In the search box, enter the phrase Replace sounds with visual cues, and then select Replace sounds with visual cues.
Windows 7
  1. Select the Start button
