. In the search box, enter Control Panel, and in the list of results, select Control Panel, and then select Sound.
On the Recording tab, select the recording device that you’d like to use, and then select Properties. Go to Device usage, select Use this device (enable), and select OK.
Open Movie Maker by selecting the Start button
. In the search box, enter Movie Maker, and then, in the list of results, select Movie Maker.
Select the Movie Maker button, and then select Options. In the left pane, select Webcam, and then check to see that Available audio device is set to the device you enabled in the Control Panel in Step 2.
If you get this error message, make sure you’ve installed the latest version or Movie Maker and that your PC meets the minimum system requirements. If you're using the latest version of Movie Maker and your PC meets the system requirements but you still get this error, check that your PC has the latest video driver installed.
To check the video card manufacturer and driver installed on your PC, select the Start button
. In the search box, enter dxdiag, and then, in the list of results, select dxdiag to open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. If you get a message asking to check if your drivers are digitally signed, select Yes.
In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, the name of the your video card and manufacturer appears on the Display tab in the Device group. The driver version you have installed appears in the Drivers group. Compare these with the info provided by the manufacturer’s website. If a newer driver is available, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install it.
