What is a Microsoft account?
When you sign in to your Microsoft account, you have an all-access pass to Microsoft's premier services. If you use any of these services, you have a Microsoft account: Outlook, Office, Skype, OneDrive, Xbox Live, Bing, Store, Windows, or MSN. Your Microsoft account lets you manage everything all in one place. Keep tabs on your subscriptions and order history, organize your family's digital life, update your privacy and security settings, track the health and safety of your devices, and get rewards. Everything stays with you in the cloud and across devices, including iOS and Android. Get to the people, content, and entertainment that matter to you most, with your Microsoft account. One account, all things Microsoft.
Sign in online
If you use any Microsoft services (Office, Outlook, etc.), you have a Microsoft account. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one during the sign-in process.
Type the email, phone number, or Skype sign-in that you use for other services (Outlook, Office, etc.), then select Next. If you don't have a Microsoft account, you can select No account? Create one!.Note that we recommend using an email you already have and use regularly.
Type your password and select the Keep me signed in box if you want to go straight into your account next time (not recommended for shared computers).
Switch from a local account to a Microsoft account (Windows 10)
If you're using a Windows 10 device, you may have signed in without using your Microsoft account. When you follow the steps below, you'll be able to see which account you're currently using. To sync your settings and Microsoft Store purchases across all your devices, you'll need to sign in with your Microsoft account.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Accounts > Your info(in some versions, it may be under Email & accounts instead).
Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead. You'll see this link only if you're using a local account. Note that if you see Sign in with a local account instead, you're already using your Microsoft account.
Follow the prompts to switch to your Microsoft account.
