Assume that you install the security update that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2707511 on a computer that is running Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3). However, when you use some 16-bit applications, the Ntvdm.exe file stops responding. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
NTVDM.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to closeThis issue occurs when one of the following scenarios is true:
- You run a 16-bit graphics application that changes the graphics video mode, and then you move the mouse pointer.
- You run a 16-bit application that tries to create a named pipe.
