This behavior occurs after you click the Refresh button in Device Manager to update drivers for any unknown devices, or if you use the Add New Hardware Wizard to install drivers for unknown devices. When you click the Cancel button, the DVD-ROM drive ejects the disc.
This behavior occurs only on drives that support the MESN feature.
- Use My Computer to eject the DVD-ROM. Right-click the drive that contains the DVD-ROM, and then click Eject. If My Computer is not visible on the screen, either right-click the taskbar and then click Minimize All, or start a new instance of Windows Explorer by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, and then clicking Windows Explorer.
- Remove the disc from the DVD-ROM drive before you add new hardware that may require a different disc for installation.
- Disable the Auto Insertion Notification option by clearing the check box in the DVD-ROM drive properties in Device Manager. You can enable this setting again after you install the new Plug and Play device.
