BUG: Corrupted DOWN ARROW Character in Non-United States Versions of Windows 2000 Advanced Option Menu

The DOWN ARROW character symbol has quotation marks (") both above and below it when it is displayed.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Install Microsoft French Windows Pro 2000 OPK Kit 1-2CPU w/SP1.
  2. After the installation completes, restart the computer and press F8 while the computer is starting in order to enter the Advanced Option Menu.
Notice the French text that is displayed at the bottom of the screen:
Utilisez ↑ et ↓ pour mettre votre choix.
The DOWN ARROW symbol has quotation marks (") both above and below it, which are not supposed to be there.

Corruption is also visible on the DOS OS selection screen and in the recovery console.

This issue has also been reproduced on Spanish and German localized versions of Microsoft Windows 2000. Corruption may be present on other localized versions of Windows 2000.
