Description of the versions of Microsoft Office client software that are supported in Windows 7

Introduction

This article discusses the versions (32-bit and 64-bit versions) of Microsoft Office that are supported in Windows 7 .

Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 Microsoft Office system are tested and supported in Windows 7. Microsoft Office XP is approaching the end of its support life cycle. Currently, Office XP is in the Extended Support period of the support life cycle. During this period, only security issues are addressed by updates. All support for Office XP will end on July 12, 2011.

Note Microsoft Office 2000 and earlier releases of Microsoft Office are beyond their 10-year support life cycles. Therefore, these products are not supported on any version of Windows.

More Information

Because Office XP and Office 2003 are on Extended Support status, there are no design or functionality updates available for these products to address issues that occur when these products are run in Windows 7. Additionally, no more service packs will be released for these versions of Office.
