This article describes the Microsoft Outlook 2010 issues that are fixed in the Outlook 2010 hotfix package that is dated February 22, 2011.

INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • You export email messages that have different subjects but are in a single conversation in Microsoft Outlook 2010. Then, you import the email messages to a mailbox. In this situation, the email messages are no longer displayed as a single conversation.

  • You perform a search in all the email messages in an Outlook 2010 mailbox. Then, you double-click an email message in the search results. In this situation, you cannot open the email message. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

    Cannot open this item.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You have a user account that has Send As permission for another user in Outlook 2010.

    • You send an email message on behalf of another user.

    • You open the email message that you just sent in Sent Items.

    In this scenario, the Recall This Message command is disabled in the Actions menu.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You create a meeting request in Outlook 2010.

    • You add a recipient to the meeting by using the nickname cache entries of the recipient.

    • You use the Scheduling Assistant to retrieve the free/busy information about the recipient.

    In this scenario, you cannot retrieve the free/busy information for the recipient.

  • The automatic profile configuration process that uses the Autodiscover service does not complete successfully in Outlook 2010 after you apply the hotfix package that is described in KB article 2405793.

    Note The automatic profile configuration process uses the user principal name (UPN) instead of the primary SMTP address. Specifically, this issue occurs when the UPN differs from the primary SMTP address.

  • You move a mailbox from one forest to another forest while an Outlook 2010 client is running. In this situation, the following issues occur:

    • You see duplicate email account entries for the same mailbox.

    • Corrupted characters are displayed in the title bar of Outlook 2010.

    • Search results are duplicated after you perform a search in email messages.

  • Consider the following scenario. You install an add-in that logs on to a MAPI shared session in Outlook 2010. You try to close Outlook 2010, and the add-in passes the MAPI_LOGOFF_SHARED parameter to the IMAPISession::Logoff method. In this scenario, Outlook 2010 does not close.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You publish a new form that deals with the BeforeCheckNames event in Outlook 2010.

    • You select the published form to create a new item.

    • You type an invalid email address in the To field, and send the item.

    In this scenario, you receive the following error message in the Check Names dialog box:

    Microsoft Outlook does not recognize <recipient>.

    Note This issue occurs because the BeforeCheckNames event is not triggered before the check name process by Outlook. Additionally, the script code that should convert the invalid email address to a valid email address is not executed in the form.

  • You configure your calendar default permission level to Reviewer in Outlook 2010. Then, another user views your calendar in Outlook 2007. In this situation, the user cannot open an item in the calendar to view the item detail information. Additionally, the user receives the following error message:

    Cannot open this item. Cannot open the free/busy information. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object. See the folder contact or your system administrator.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You configure Outlook 2010 to have an additional IMAP type email account.

    • You move a folder from Inbox of the Exchange account to the Inbox of the IMAP account.

    • The folder is now located under the Inbox of the IMAP account.

    • You restart Outlook 2010.

    In this scenario, the folder is missing from the IMAP account’s Inbox and from the Exchange account’s Inbox.

  • You receive an email message or a meeting request that has lots of recipients. Then, you open the email message or the meeting request in Outlook 2010. In this situation, Outlook is unresponsive and it tries to render the content of the email message or the meeting request in the Reading Pane.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You enable the Show as Conversations setting in Outlook 2010.

    • You create a new meeting request.

    • You add the meeting request subject in the Subject field.

    • You add attendees, and then you set the location.

    • You update the meeting request subject in the Subject field.

    • You sent the meeting request.

    In this scenario, the conversation subject of the meeting request is not updated in Sent Items.

  • You open a meeting request item from Sent Items in Outlook 2010. Then, you run a VBA code that contains a MeetingRequest.GetAssociatedAppointment method on the item. In this situation, the MeetingRequest.GetAssociatedAppointment method does not run successfully. Additionally, you may also receive the following error message:

    Runtime error 91: Object variable or With block variable not set.

  • When you send an encrypted email message to a recipient and Outlook 2010 cannot determine the encryption algorithm that applies to this recipient, RC2-40 is selected as the encryption algorithm instead of the default 3DES. The result is that the email message is sent by using 40-bit encryption only. This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:

    • The certificate is auto-enrolled in the userCertificates attribute in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) or it is added to your contacts from a .cer file.

    • The certificate has no S/MIME Capabilities extension.

  • In Outlook 2010, you cannot close a view if the GetVisibleCallback function is used in a Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System (VSTO) add-in.

  • Custom actions for native MAPI forms are not displayed in the shortcut menu of an item in Outlook 2010.

  • When you search the offline address book for a user whose certificate or record is larger than 64 kilobytes, you receive the following error message:

    The operation could be completed because an offline address is not available. Download a company offline address book.

  • The Delegates dialog box stops responding for a long time if you start Outlook 2010 by using a RPC over HTTP connection.

  • When you click No response required for a meeting in Outlook 2010, the meeting is unexpectedly deleted from your calendar.

  • Attachments are not persisted correctly by using the object model and the Insert Item dialog box in Outlook 2010.

  • Assume that you open an .eml file and convert it into an email message. When you forward or reply to this email message, it is saved in the Inbox folder.

  • Outlook 2010 crashes if there is corrupted data in a recurrence instance. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

    Microsoft Outlook has stopped working.

  • In some add-in integration scenarios, calls to the activeexplorer.currentview property returns useless data.

  • Assume that you set the email message delivery location to a .pst file that uses an online mode profile. When you send an email message to a recipient, the email message is sent. However, a copy of the email message remains in Outbox permanently.

  • In the calendar of Outlook 2010, the first week is skipped in the week numbering for the year 2013 if the first day of the week is set to Monday.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You use a computer that is running Outlook 2010 to connect to a server that is running POP or IMAP services and SMTP services.

    • You enable IPv4 and IPv6 services on the server and on the computer.

    • The computer has IPv4 network connectivity to the server. However, the computer does not have IPv6 network connectivity to the server.

    In this scenario, Outlook 2010 cannot send or receive email messages. Additionally, Outlook 2010 cannot connect to the server.

  • In Outlook 2010, when you click a link to a file on a folder homepage, the folder homepage may be blank.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You configure Outlook 2010 to use Basic authentication, and then you enable the Outlook Anywhere feature.

    • You configure a Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 server or a Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006 server that uses Basic authentication to publish Outlook Anywhere.

    • You log on to Outlook 2010 through Outlook Anywhere.

    • You type your user account name. However, you mistype your user account password.


    In this scenario, Outlook 2010 does not display an incorrect password prompt. Instead, it uses the wrong credentials to try and connect the Exchange server until the user account is locked.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
