For the best experience with Surface Dock, make sure it's up to date. Find out how to download and install an update.
The instructions on this page apply only to Surface Dock.
If you have a different dock for Surface, you can’t update it using the updater software.
- Check for Windows updates
- Get the Surface Dock Updater tool
- Download and install the Surface Dock update
- Didn’t update? Try another PC or visit a Microsoft Store
Check for Windows updates
Make sure you have the latest Windows and Surface updates (these updates include Surface Dock). To see how, go to Update Windows 10.
Make sure you install all updates, including optional and recommended ones. If that didn’t fix your Surface Dock, use the Surface Dock Updater tool.
Get the Surface Dock Updater tool
- Go to Download Surface Tools for IT.
You don't need to download the entire software package. When you select Download, select the Surface Dock updater by itself.
Under Choose the down load you want, select Surface_Dock_Updater_v184.108.40.206.msi (or later).
Select Next and follow the rest of the instructions to install the tool.
Download and install the Surface Dock update
Now that you’ve installed it, you can use the Surface Dock Updater tool to update your Surface Dock. Connect your Surface Dock to your Surface, open the tool, and select Start. Then follow the onscreen instructions.
You’ll be asked to disconnect and reconnect your Surface Dock during the update. After you’ve disconnected the Surface Dock, it’ll need to stay powered on for at least 3 minutes for the update to install. The LED light on the Ethernet port of the Dock will blink while the update is happening. Wait until it stops blinking before you unplug your Surface Dock from its power.
Didn’t update? Try another Surface or visit a Microsoft Store
If the Surface Dock didn’t update with the Updater tool, try these same steps with another Surface device running Windows 10 Pro. Or, you can get your Surface Dock updated free of charge at a Microsoft Store near you.
