Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) installed on SQL Server in Tabular mode.

  • You connect the services through a user who belongs to a role that is defined with a restricted column in a table.

  • You run a drillthrough query on another column in the same table.

In this scenario when you run the query, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

The 'column_name' column cannot be found in the 'table_name' table.

For example, you define Object Level security on the Reseller Sales table and Gross Profit column, and then then create a role that restricts it to Read permissions. The drillthrough query fails, and you receive the following error message:

The 'Gross Profit' column cannot be found in the '$Reseller Sales' table.
