FIX: SQL Server generates core dump with "Failed to monitor external signals" in SQL Server 2017

Symptoms


Assume that you use SQL Server 2017. It may generate core dump with "Failed to monitor external signals" error message that resembles the following:

This program has encountered a fatal error and cannot continue running.

The following diagnostic information is available:

Reason: 0x00000007

Message: Failed to monitor external signals

Process: ProcessId- sqlservr

Thread: ThreadId (application thread 0x1000)

Instance Id: InstanceId

Crash Id: CrashId

Build stamp: BuildStampId

Capturing core dump and information...

Status


Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
