FIX: "Expired BLOB handle" error occurs when cross-database transaction involves communication with MSDTC in SQL Server 2017 and 2019

Applies to: SQL Server 2017 DeveloperSQL Server 2017 EnterpriseSQL Server 2017 Enterprise Core

Assume that your application initiates a cross-databasetransaction that updates multiple tables in different databases in a manner thatrequires communication with Microsoft Distributed TransactionCoordinator (MSDTC). In this scenario, you receive an "Expired BLOB handle" error.
The reasons for MSTDC involvement include the following:
  • Updates occur through a Linked Server.
  • One or more databases become part of an Always On availability group (AG).

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
