How Good On You ratings work

Sustainable and ethical ratings are powered by Good On You®. Good On You ratings are an average of the scores for each of three focal areas: people, planet, and animals. Information is gathered from brand and parent company credible reporting, third-party indices (for example, the Fashion Transparency Index and CDP Climate Change and Water Security projects), and independent certifications, accreditations, and other standards-based systems (like Fair Trade, Cradle to Cradle, OEKO-TEX STeP and the Global Organic Textile Standard).

Good On You collects over 500 data points per brand across more than 100 key sustainability issues, indicators, and standards systems. Good On You weighs and scores brand performance against those sustainability issues based on an assessment of materiality and how well the brands comply with the standards that have been set.  Microsoft has not approved, and is not involved in developing, Good On You’s methodology or ratings of any brands.

We'll let Good On You introduce themselves:

Good On You was created to use the power of people’s choices to drive a sustainable future. We aim to make sustainable shopping easy for millions of people around the world by being the best, most trusted source for brand ratings, articles, and expertise on ethical and sustainable fashion.

We partnered with good on you because we align with their mission and like their in-depth process for determining brand rating scores. Good On You data sources include brand and parent company reporting; third-party indices (for example, the Fashion Transparency Index and CDP Climate Change and Water Security projects); and independent certifications, accreditations, and other standards-based systems, such as Fair Trade, Cradle to Cradle, OEKO-TEX STeP and the Global Organic Textile Standard.

Good On You creates their value labels using brand and parent company reporting, third-party indices, and independent certifications and accreditations. Value labels allow you to find products that align with the values most important to you. Labels include eco-friendly materials, fair trade, give back, organic, recycled/upcycled, vegan, among others.

The ethical shopping initiative is available in six countries: Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with plans for further expansion in 2022.
